Description

Vominorm (metoclopramide) is a drug prescribed to treat esophagitis and heartburn caused by GERD. It works by increasing the rate at which the stomach content is emptied into the intestines.

 

Vominorm (metoclopramide) is also prescribed to persons with gastroparesis and to prevent nausea and vomiting that is linked to chemotherapy. Persons with diabetes may also take this medicine to treat diabetic gastroparesis; a condition associated with slow stomach emptying. This condition is known to cause nausea, vomiting, heartburn, loss of appetite as well as feeling full for long after meals.

To guarantee the safe use of Vominorm, let your doctor know if you have a history of or if you suffer from any of the following conditions:

  • Congestive heart failure
  • History of mental illness or depression
  • Bleeding or blockage in the stomach or intestines
  • Parkinson’s disease

 

In the treatment of gastroparesis, a patient is directed to take 10mg of vominorm (metoclopramide). This should be taken 4 times in a day. Take the dose 30 minutes before meals and before bedtime. For the treatment of nausea or vomiting after chemotherapy, the dose is taken 30 minutes prior to chemotherapy. This is then followed by 2 doses after every 2 hours and then 3 doses after every 3 hours.

 

Vominorm is available as a liquid suspension and as an orally disintegrating tablet. During chemotherapy, the dose is administered through IV – 2mg/kg in adults. The infusion is made 30 minutes before chemotherapy.

 

You may experience withdrawal symptoms once you stop taking Vominorm (metoclopramide).

Category B

Vominorm (metoclopramide) is not expected to harm an unborn baby. Let the doctor know if you are pregnant, plan on becoming pregnant or if you are breastfeeding a baby. Metoclopramide can be passed into breast milk and can harm a nursing baby.

Overdose symptoms

Vominorm (metoclopramide) should be used with a prescription. Taking the medicine for longer or in larger doses than recommended can lead to irreversible movement disorder. The symptoms of the movement disorder include uncontrollable muscle movements of the tongue, lips, eyes, face, arms or legs. The longer you take the medicine the higher the risk of developing this disorder. The risk is higher in older adults, women and people with diabetics.

 

Don’t use Vominorm if you have bleeding or blockage in your stomach or intestines. The drug should also not be used by persons with seizures disorder or adrenal gland tumor.

 

Metoclopramide interacts with alcohol. Drinking alcohol will make the side effects worse.
