Before a prescription is given, let your doctor know if you are allergic to any bisphosphonates. The pharmacist or doctor should also know about your medical history especially if you have:

Alendronate Sodium tablet should be taken in the morning, 30 minutes before drinking or eating anything or using any other medication. The dose should be taken with a full glass of plain water. Don’t lie down for at least 30 minutes after ingesting the tablet. Don’t recline or lie down. You must also not eat or drink anything apart from plain water for at least 30 minutes.
It is unknown if Alendronate Sodium can cause harm to an unborn or breastfeeding baby. Caution has to be taken if you are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant. Studies show that the active ingredients may remain in the body for years. Always discuss the benefits and risks with the doctor before you start treatment. It is unknown if the medicine passes into breast milk.

Alendronate Sodium should not be used by persons who cannot sit upright or stand for more than 30 minutes. The medicine can lead to serious problems in the esophagus or stomach. You have to stay upright for not less than 30 minutes after ingesting the tablet.
Alendronate Sodium should not be used by children. Studies show that children who use the medicine experience serve side effects which include flu-like symptoms, vomiting and fever. Contact your doctor before you give the medicine to a child.
Let your doctors, dentists and surgeons know that you are using Alendronate Sodium. They may ask you to stop using the medicine for a while before treatment. Follow their instructions about stopping and starting the medication.
Alendronate Sodium has interactions with calcium supplements/ antacids, aspirin, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
