Description
Estradiol Valerate USP is a form of estrogen used to treat the symptoms of menopause in women. The drug is used to treat such symptoms as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, irritation and burning. The drug may also be prescribed to prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and for estrogen replacement in women with conditions that cause the lack of natural estrogen such as ovarian failure. Estradiol may also be used in part for the treatment of cancer in both men and women.
Estradiol Valerate USP contains a hormone that is similar to the estrogen hormone. During menopause, the production of estrogen in women reduces. This can cause symptoms such as night sweats, vagina dryness and hot flushes. This drug treats these conditions by replacing the low levels of estrogen.
Estradiol Valerate USP cannot be used to prevent stroke, heart disease or dementia. It increases the risk of developing these conditions.

Estradiol Valerate USP is not recommended for use in patients with the following conditions:
- Unusual vaginal bleeding
- History of heart attack or stroke in the last year
- Allergic to estradiol valerate
- History of blood clots disorder
- Any form of cancer
- If you plan on becoming pregnant
To ensure the safe use of this drug, let the prescribing doctor know:
- If you are breastfeeding a baby
- Of all the medications you are on
- About your medical history (liver disease, thyroid disorder, migraines, epilepsy, gallbladder disease, high or low calcium levels in the blood, uterus removal, jaundice)
- If you are scheduled for surgery or bed rest
Estradiol Valerate USP should be taken exactly as prescribed. The medicine is injected deeply into the upper, outer quadrant of your muscle. Special care should be taken when administering the drug. Use a dry needle and syringe to keep the solution from becoming cloudy. Estrogen should be used at the lowest dose possible.
Before using the medicine, inspect it for discoloration or particulate matter. The solution is colorless to pale yellow.

Estradiol Valerate USP can cause harm to an unborn baby and birth defects. Don’t use this drug while pregnant. Estradiol can pass into breast milk and cause harm to a nursing baby.
Store at room temperature and away from light, heat and moisture. Keep the bottle sealed.

- Symptoms of a heart attack (chest pressure or pain, pain that spreads to the jaw or shoulder, sweating, nausea)
- Signs of blood clot in the leg (pain, warmth, swelling or redness in the legs)
- Jaundice
- Unusual vaginal bleeding
- Lump in the breast
- Fluid retention (rapid weight gain, swelling)
- High levels of calcium (vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, muscle weakness or pain, confusion, restlessness, constipation)

- Vaginal discharge, or itching
- Changes in menstrual periods
When using Estradiol Valerate USP, you are advised to watch out for symptoms related to endometrial, breast or ovarian cancer. You will need to self-examine your breasts for any lumps or changes and report any unusual vaginal bleeding to your doctor. Your doctor will check your progress every 3 to 6 months.
