Letrozole is a medication used to treat breast cancer in postmenopausal women. The drug works by lowering the estrogen levels. This in turn slows the growth of certain breast tumors that rely on estrogen to grow. Letrozole is often prescribed to women who have been taking tamoxifen for a period longer than 5 years.
