Description
Levocetirizine is a drug used to treat the symptoms of perennial (year-round) allergies in both adults and children over 6 months of age. The medicine is also used to treat the symptoms of seasonal allergies in adults and in kids over the age of 2 years. Levocetirizine will treat symptoms caused by the natural chemical histamine in the body: sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes and itching. Levocetirizine may also be prescribed to treat swelling and itching that is caused by hives (chronic urticarial).

To guarantee the safe use of levocetirizine, let the prescribing doctor know if you suffer from any of these conditions:

Follow the directions on the prescription label keenly. Don’t take a smaller or larger dose than directed. Taking a larger dose will cause drowsiness and worsen other side effects.

Don’t use this medication if you are allergic to levocetirizine or Zyrtec (cetirizine). The medication should also not be used by persons with end-stage kidney disease or those on dialysis. Kids below the age of 12 and with gallbladder or kidney problems should also not use this medicine.
Use levocetirizine exactly as prescribed. Be particularly careful with kids as their body absorbs twice as much dose as adults. Contact your doctor if the symptoms don’t get better or if they worsen or if you get a fever.
Levocetirizine has interactions with 559 drugs. The drug also interacts with alcohol.
