Description
Donepezil is used to treat mild to moderate dementia; a conditions known as Alzheimer’s disease. The drug works by improving the function of nerve cells in the brain. It does this by preventing the breakdown of acetylcholine – a chemical in the brain. Acetylcholine is essential in the processes of reasoning, thinking and memory. People suffering from dementia have a low level of this chemical.
It is important to note that Donepezil does not cure Alzheimer’s disease. The disease will progress with time even when using this medicine.

To guarantee the safe use of Donepezil, let your doctor know if you have a history or suffer from any of these conditions:

Use Donepezil exactly as prescribed. Don’t take larger or smaller doses than prescribed or for duration longer or shorter than recommended. Donepezil can be taken with or without food. Don’t chew, crush or break the regular tablet. Swallow it whole with a full glass of water.
For the orally disintegrating tablet, don’t remove the tablet from the blister pack until it is time for taking it. Open the package and cut or peel the backing. Don’t push the tablet through the backing as this may damage it. Using dry hands place the tablet into your mouth and allow it to dissolve. Swallow the content as the tablet dissolves. Don’t chew the tablet or swallow it whole. Once the tablet has dissolved completely, drink a full glass of water.
It is unknown if donepezil can cause harm to an unborn baby. Even so, you need to let your doctor know if you are pregnant or if you plan on becoming pregnant during treatment. It is also unknown if the drug can pass into breast milk or if it can cause harm to a breastfeeding baby.
Store at room temperature and away from heat and moisture.
