Description
Metronidazole(Brandname: Flagyl) – effective against anaerobic bacteria and protozoa. It inhibits growth of trichomonae and amoebae by binding to its DNA which results to the loss of its DNA helical structure by destructing its DNA strand, disrupting nucleic acid synthesis resulting to its cell death.

AMEBIASIS. TO REDUCE POSTOPERATIVE ANAEROBIC INFECTION following colorectal surgery, elective hysterectomy and emergency appendectomy. PART OF COMBINATION THERAPY TO ERADICATE HELICOBACTER PYLORI INFECTION. CROHN′ DISEASE. DIARRHEA associated with Clostridium difficile. URETHRITIS. PELVIC INFLAMMATORY DISEASE as an alternative parenteral regimen. PROPHYLAXIS AFTER SEXUAL ASSAULT. BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS. Investigational: GIARDIASIS. GARDNERELLA VAGINALIS.
