Description
Isotretinoin (Generic Accutane) is a form of vitamin A that is used to treat severe nodular acne. This medication is given after other alternative treatments have failed. In its working, it reduces the amount of oil that the oil glands in the skin produce and also helps the skin to renew itself quickly.
Isotretinoin (Generic Accutane) is only available under the iPLEDGE program. It should not be used by pregnant women or those who plan on becoming pregnant because of the severe birth defects it causes. It is available to potential child-bearing women who agree in writing to use 2 forms of birth control and submit to regular pregnancy tests before, during and after taking Accutane (Isotretinoin).
Patients using this medication should also not donate blood or take vitamin A supplements.

You should not use Isotretinoin (Generic Accutane) if you are allergic to Isotretinoin or to parabens. You must also use the drug within the iPLEDGE program. For the best results, tell your doctor if you have any of the following conditions:
- Asthma
- Diabetes
- Liver disease
- Eating disorder
- Family or personal history of mental illness or depression
- Bone disorders
- Heart disease
- High cholesterol or Triglycerides
Isotretinoin (Generic Accutane) should be used as prescribed. The prescription should be filled within 7 days of the date of prescription. You will not get a supply of more than 30 days at a time. Take the tablets with plenty of water to keep the capsule from melting in the food pipe. The capsule should be swallowed whole. You can take the medicine with or without food or milk.
At first, the acne may seem to be getting worse. It will, however, improve with time. Your doctor will test you often to ensure there are no adverse side effects. The starting dose is usually 20mg per day. This may be increased or reduced depending on the patient’s condition.

Isotretinoin (Generic Accutane) should not be used by female patients who are or want to become pregnant. The drug may cause birth defects such as abnormalities of the eyes, face, ears, skull, cardiovascular system, central nervous system and thymus and parathyroid glands.
The dose is dependent on a patient’s weight and severity of the condition.

While on the treatment, avoid vitamin supplements that contain Vitamin A. You must also not donate blood for at least 30 days after stopping the use of Isotretinoin (Generic Accutane) . You shouldn’t use wax hair removers, laser skin treatment or dermabrasion while on this medication. Avoid exposure to UV rays since the treatment may cause your skin to be more sensitive to sunburns.
